Reko Hilton will excite folk who really are interested in the provenance of their food; one really has little idea what is in commercial produce, whether it is grown in an eco-friendly way, how the animals are treated and whether it is as close to completely natural as possible.

REKO is a Finnish trading movement meaning fair consumption with the aim of putting customers in direct contact with local folk to have a market of fresh local produce nurtured in an organic and ethical way.

Reko farmers' market.

Are you concerned about preservatives, colourants and flavourants in your food? Despite them being declared totally safe by the industry, do you too have your doubts? Does it bother you that your potatoes from cold storage were sprayed with a toxic herbicide shortly before harvesting to desiccate them? Then Reko Hilton is for you.

You will find artisanal cheeses, sourdough bread made with 100% flour and a huge array of freshly grown vegetables. There are others who make and market their own probiotics like kefir and kombucha, gluten free baked goods and natural honey. There's raw milk of course, microgreens and a host of interesting products.

Free range quail and hen's eggs, organically reared chicken, pork and even game meat are all to be found. Smoked trout is another favourite; in short too much to cover. Come and browse at Reko Hilton and find us on Facebook.

The produce at Reko Hilton is not particularly cheap and some of it is frankly expensive. It is has become gradually apparent to me that the cost of the food is a small part of the whole; it's the care and love with which it was created that you are paying for.

One slice of a decent cheese on a piece of artisan bread and you have a meal.

Can you believe it that the cost of olives is actually significantly less than the glass bottle they comes in? Yet you pay an exorbitant price.

At Reko Hilton you will find people obsessed by making good food for you. Locally sourced or produced is one of the requirements.

B's best whole grains and raw honey

Freshly-ground whole grains are virtually impossible to get today. B's best specialises in wheat and maize that will be milled on the day of purchase.

B's best roller-mill for grinding maize.

First the maize kernels are partially-crushed in a roller-mill, and the finely stone ground to produce a fine grain of the highest quality.

100pc wholemeal for sourdough bread.

B's best also specialises in stone-ground 100pc wholemeal used for baking wholesome bread; all of the bran, germ and endosperm are present in the same proportions as the grain. There is no separation of the three streams.

B's best creamed and runny honey.

B's best honey is not heated or warmed in any way. It is lightly filtered so that the pollens from the flowers are left in the honey, helping with allergies.
